Forethought

Family scenario planning · Canada

Rehearse what happens next, before a hospital decides it for you.

Forethought gives your family concrete situations to think through — separately, then together. Everyone answers privately. Nothing is revealed until everyone has had their turn. What comes out is a plain-language plan you can print and carry.

How this works

What the Canadian context changes

  1. Placement is allocated, not purchased. The meaningful decision is not which home, but which few, in what order, and what you do while you wait.
  2. Offers arrive with a clock. A bed offer must be answered within hours. It is entirely foreseeable months ahead.
  3. Accommodation costs are set by government. For publicly funded long-term care the co-payment is identical across homes. There is nothing to shop for on price.
